Camping at Glacier National Park

Camping at Glacier National Park in the northern Rocky Mountains is a memorable experience. With over a million acres of forests, countless lakes and glacier-carved valleys, Glacier National Park is truly a sight to behold. Home to over 70 species of mammals and over 260 species of birds, Glacier National Park is a favorite destination for outdoor enthusiasts.

Camping

With 13 campgrounds and over 1,000 campsites, Glacier National Park offers multiple options for campers. While most of the campgrounds operate on a first-come, first-served basis, there are two campgrounds that accept reservations: Fish Creek and St. Mary. It is possible to reserve campsites up to 12 months in advance, but campsite stays are limited to seven consecutive days. No more than eight people can occupy a campsite, and there is a maximum of two vehicles per campsite. Group sites for nine to 24 people are available at four of the campgrounds. Most of the 13 campgrounds are open until late September or mid-October, while some primitive sites are open until late November.

Activities

There are many activities in which to participate in at Glacier National Park. The park is a popular spot among cyclists who are drawn to the beautiful bike ride along the famous Going-to-the-Sun-Road, as well as the many other stunning bike rides throughout the park. Fishing is another popular activity since the park's lakes are a habitat for many species of fish, including cut-throat trout, rainbow trout, lake trout, kokanee salmon and northern pike. Check with the park for fishing rules and regulations. There are also over 700 miles of trails for hikers and backpackers to enjoy. From short hikes with the kids to challenging treks for experienced hikers, Glacier National Park has something for everyone.

If you are looking for a beautiful, fun-filled destination where you can enjoy camping with family and friends, then look no further than Glacier National Park. With its vast acreage and countless activities at your fingertips, you are sure to experience a memorable camping trip.
